Information Technology Act 2000 Amendment

The much awaited details of the amendments to ITA 2000 passed by Loksabha on 22nd and Rajyasabha on 23rd of Dec 2008 without any debate, has now come to the public domain.

It is time to discuss the implications of the amendments and also the extent to which the Parliamentary standing committee's recommendations have been incorporated in the new Bill. Here is the first set of observations.

(P.S: The Bill passed in the parliament now will be referred to as ITA 2000 Amendment Bill 2008 or ITAA 2008. The earlier draft of the Bill tabled in the Parliament on 15th Dec 2006 will be referred to as ITA 2000 Amendment Bill 2006 or ITAA 2006).......
